This fashion accessory pays homage to Empress Eugenie: indeed, to declare her flame, Emperor Napoleon III had given her a diamond jewel in the shape of a clover to remind her of the dew-covered clover she had seen during a walk together and which she had found so beautiful. The empress had then pinned the jewel to her bodice on a daily basis until the end of her life.
